Forkful #33: A Blender in the Palm of Your Hand

stickThis is one of my favorite kitchen tools – a stick blender (or immersion blender). You just plunge this baby down into a sauce, soup, etc. and in no time flat it blends it up for you. No need to get out the blender or food processor to de-lump that tomato soup… just leave it in the pot and use the stick blender. It also affords you a great deal of control on how smooth you blend something too; because the liquid stays in the original container you don’t have to take the lid off your blender or food processor to fish around and see how chunky it is.

Clean up is also amazingly easy – give the blades a whirl in a little soapy water and they’re almost instantly clean. Want it even cleaner? Just press a button and the bottom half pops right off to go into the dish washer. This is seriously one of the most versatile and easy to use tools in our kitchen, and one we highly recommend you put in yours (or into the stocking of someone you love).

  1. The immersion blenders are so nice for quickly pureeing of soups and sauces. In the industry we call them “burr mixers” and can get quite large with 3-foot long shafts and powerful electric motors. Good for blending up 5+ gallon batches of soup, sauce, etc…
