How often do you buy fresh herbs? And how often do you throw out half of them a few days later because they’ve become a brown, wilted mess? It’s the same in our house, and honestly, unless we have a recipe in mind that calls for specific fresh herbs, we just don’t buy them because they end up being thrown out. Well, here’s a way to fix that!
These little pods on the left didn’t come from the mothership, and they’re not miniature hydroponic gardens… they’re herb savers. Just put a little water in the bottom (there’s a little spout on the back that lets you add water easily) and put your leftover herbs stem-down in the pod. They’ll keep for up to 3 weeks in the fridge like this, giving you time to actually use them before they collapse into a brown mess. As good as fresh herbs are in dishes (and as garnishes), this is a pretty measly investment at around $20.
And, for any Foodie Forkful family members reading this, a certain couple of bloggers would be really happy to find one or two of these in their stockings… *cough, cough*
You just came to my rescue! When I lived in Florida I had pots of herbs growing everywhere, all year long. Since I moved away, I have been throwing out fresh herbs from the grocery store by the bagful! I think I’ll give myself a few of these for Xmas…forget the stocking stuffers!
